We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice HGV Mechanic to join our Vehicle Maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in heavy vehicle engineering to start a hands‑on career while completing a nationally recognised qualification.
As an apprentice, you will learn how to service, maintain, and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) to industry standards, working alongside experienced technicians and receiving full training throughout your apprenticeship In partnership with our external learning provider.

What You'll Be Doing

Under supervision, learn to:
Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
Assist with engine, transmission, braking, and suspension system repairs.
Conduct vehicle safety checks in line with DVSA standards.
Use diagnostic equipment and workshop tools safely and correctly.
Carry out duties in a manner consistent with established safety, environmental & maintenance procedures.
Work with VMU shift Co-ordinators / FLM & Logistics team to ensure fleet asset availability in accordance with delivery schedules.
Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety procedures

Work alongside qualified technicians to gain practical experience in HGV maintenance and repair.
Engage with external learning providers to meet apprenticeship requirements. 
Build professional working relationships with the VMU Team and wider business. 

What We're Looking For

Good capacity for mechanical reasoning 
English & Maths at GCSE Grade C/4 (or Functional Skills Level 2) or above
Full UK driving licence or working towards one.
A genuine interest in vehicle maintenance or engineering.
Willingness to learn and take direction.
Good problem‑solving ability.
Strong attention to detail.
Positive attitude and commitment to completing the apprenticeship.
Good verbal / written communication and teamwork skills.
