We have a fantastic opportunity for a VMU Front Line Manager to join our Vehicle Maintenance Unit at Allied Bakeries, West Bromwich. This is a key operational role responsible for ensuring our fleet operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with legislation and company standards.

 

As VMU Front Line Manager, you’ll lead and develop a team of vehicle technicians, coordinators and administrators, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and performance. You’ll play a pivotal role in keeping our logistics operation running smoothly, ensuring high vehicle availability, meeting compliance targets, and supporting the delivery of freshly baked goods to our customers every day.

This role would suit a qualified vehicle technician with proven leadership experience in a commercial vehicle maintenance environment, who thrives on accountability and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

Your duties as a VMU Front Line Manager will include:

 

  • Planning the workload, sourcing parts for repairs and servicing in accordance with all company and legal requirements.

  • Upskilling and development of the small team of VMU technicians.

  • Monitoring all defects and ensuring repairs are completed promptly.

  • Ensuring all spares ordered meet company standards and are purchased from approved suppliers.

  • Maintaining audit readiness at all times (DVSA, AB Central, Stock Check).

  • Ensuring all LOLER inspections are completed in line with inspection schedules and that repairs are completed within agreed timeframes.

  • Demonstrating understanding of the financial system and reviewing weekly cost reports.

  • Conducting bi-annual Technician 1-2-1 performance reviews.

  • Working alongside the Regional VMU Manager to deliver a high-quality VMU service to all departments.

  • Taking the lead in the day-to-day organisation of the workshop and workload.

  • Actively promoting a Safety First ethos within the VMU, leading by example.

  • Supporting the development of apprentices within the VMU.

  • Ensuring servicing and repairs are carried out in accordance with all legal and company requirements.
