Location: Gateshead Depot
Salary: £43,172 per annum
Hours: 44 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 (includes weekend working)
Contract: Permanent


The Role

We’re looking for a VMU Technician to join our Gateshead Depot Vehicle Maintenance Unit, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our fleet.

You’ll be part of a close-knit VMU team of 7 colleagues, including a VMU Manager, two VMU Co-ordinators, two Technicians, a Labourer and an Administrator, working together to maintain a fleet of around 45 vehicles.

In this hands-on role, you’ll carry out inspections, servicing and repairs on vehicles, trailers and associated equipment, helping to ensure our fleet remains compliant, roadworthy and available to meet delivery schedules.

You’ll work closely with the VMU Co-ordinators, Front Line Managers and the wider Logistics team, contributing to performance targets while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Inspecting, servicing and repairing vehicles, trailers and ancillary equipment

  • Completing work in line with company procedures and DVSA/VOSA standards

  • Supporting vehicle availability in line with operational and delivery requirements

  • Working safely and in line with environmental, health and safety procedures

  • Highlighting safety or compliance concerns to the VMU Co-ordinator or FLM

  • Using tools, equipment and resources effectively

  • Supporting the use of external contractors where required

  • Contributing to shift KPIs through timely and effective maintenance activity

  • Carrying out other VMU-related duties as required

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • City & Guilds LGV qualification (or equivalent LGV vehicle maintenance qualification)

  • LGV Licence C+E

  • Experience carrying out inspections, servicing and repairs on LGV vehicles

  • Ability to work safely and follow maintenance and compliance procedures

  • Comfortable working as part of a team and communicating with colleagues

Desirable

  • Experience working in an LGV fleet maintenance environment

  • Experience planning and organising maintenance tasks
