Role: Trainee Miller

Hours: 41.6p/week (rotating days and nights)

Location: Tilbury, Essex

We have a great opportunity for a Trainee Miller to join an experienced team, providing a first-class service at our flour mill in Tilbury. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of consistently high-quality products, in a safe, efficient and cost-effective environment; with a focus on developing personal knowledge in all aspects of milling, mill performance and product quality whilst supporting all aspects of production from wheat intake to bulk products dispatch/packing; working to AM Milling best practice at all times.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out Mill Food/Feed Safety Checks which include the HACCP Critical Control Points (CCP’s.)
  • Flour blending to specification, minimising waste and remix of products and in line with company QFFS standards and policies
  • Monitor all Mill processes in the control room using WinCos and respond to, rectify (first fix) and report all faults.
  • Support laboratory with out of hours QA checks to maintain product quality.
  • Actively contribute to site standards and respective internal and external audits. Ensuring a clean as you go approach at all times.
  • Maintain product quality, plant capacity, hygiene and cleaning in mill areas.
  • Contribute to the sites Continuous Improvement Agenda, identifying focus areas to improve.
  • To operate to procedures as defined within site quality, environmental and health and safety systems and standards. Demonstrating the ‘Safety First’ approach at all times. 
  • Flour production to specification, minimising waste and remix of products and in line with company QFFS standards and policies.
  • Liaising with the Day Miller and Engineers to carry out milling and maintenance activities; identifying and rectifying any plant/process defects through regular inspections.
  • Work closely with Technical to monitor quality through lab analysis.
  • To establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including; Technical, Engineering, Distribution, Warehouse.
  • Support the miller in carrying out Good Milling Practice checks. (in process check logs)
  • Support the Miller with the daily running of the Mills, including production planning.

The Right Person

A minimum of 3 G.C.S.E’s (Including Maths and English) or equivalent.

Computer literate including Word, Excel, Outlook

NABIM Qualified Modules 1- 4 (5 – 7 to be achieved in role)

Level 3 HACCP

Knowledge of BRC & AIB Standards

Buhler milling qualification and IOSH Managing Safely is desirable
