The Role:

 

We are currently recruiting for a Shift Engineer to join our Engineering team based in Bishop’s Stortford. This is a full-time role that operates on a shift basis, providing essential 24/7 engineering support to our production operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the performance of production machinery, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and operating at maximum efficiency. You will play a key role in reducing downtime and supporting the delivery of the production plan.

You will work closely with operators to help them optimise machinery performance and develop their mechanical skills. You will also collaborate with the Engineering Co-Ordinator and other engineers to carry out planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring that any issues are resolved quickly and effectively.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will be expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support the availability of spare parts, and ensure effective communication during shift handovers. You will be a role model within the team, promoting high standards in safety, hygiene, and engineering practice.

This role requires flexibility, as you will be part of a team providing cover across all shifts, including weekends. You will also be expected to take ownership of your own development and support the wider site management team when required.

 

The Candidate:

We are looking for a qualified experienced engineer who is passionate about delivering high standards and continuous improvement. You should have completed a recognised apprenticeship and hold both electrical and mechanical qualifications, ideally at City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent. You must also hold a BS 7671 qualification, either 17th or 18th Edition. Experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, or a similar fast-  paced environment is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to health and safety and be able to demonstrate safe working practices. You should be   confident in identifying and resolving machine performance issues and have a track record of contributing to measurable improvements.
